IK4-LORTEK

Description:
IK4-LORTEK is a non-profit research institute that was set up with a clear commitment of acquiring knowledge and expertise in materials, manufacturing processes and joining technologies for further transferring it to industry. The RTD is clearly industry oriented, developing integral solutions for manufacturing technologies with high performance materials.

IK4-LORTEK belongs to the IK4 Research Alliance that gathers 9 Research Centres (http://www.ik4.es/en), including 1.400 researchers, which has a strong participation in European projects.

IK4-LORTEK’s activities are mainly in Joining Technologies as well as in related manufacturing processes, such as laser based additive manufacturing of metal parts. The main R&D lines of IK4-LORTEK related to HyProCell are Laser based processing technologies, Process modelling & Numerical Simulation, Process Control and Monitoring and Data Management.

The research group in laser additive manufacturing of metal parts was established in 2007 and nowadays is integrated by 6 people, led by Dr. Maria San Sebastian. It is participating in R&I projects both at national and European level. On the other hand, Process Monitoring and NDT and Data Management are part of the Smart Manufacturing Dpt, led by IK4-LORTEK ´s CTO, Dr. Echeverria. This group began its activity in 2010 and nowadays consists of 6 people. They have experience in European Projects, such as FP7-CS WELDMINDT and H2020 COMBILASER projects. The research group in Process modelling & Numerical Simulation will be also involved in HyProCell project. This group is composed by 7 researchers and counts with more than 10 years of expertise in modelling of distortions and residual stresses in welding and additive manufacturing processes.

Currently, IK4-LORTEK is also participating in CS2 Projects: DISTRACTION (CFP01-AIR-02-07), eco-TECH (CPW02-AIR-01-03) as core partner, DELASTI (CPW01-LPA-01-03), CRO-INSPECT (CFP02-AIR-01-13) and in ADDISPACE (Interreg SUDOE).

IK4-LORTEK is actively participating directly or indirectly (via IK4 Research Alliance) in different technological Platforms, such as European Additive Manufacturing Platform (AMPlatform) and EFFRA. Furthermore, LTK is part of Basque Technology Network (InnoBasque) and of the Cooperative Research Centre marGUNE (high performance manufacturing).
