HyProCell as featured in the Laser Additive Manufacturing Forum of the AKL´18 International Laser Technology Congress that took place on 2 May 2018 in Aachen, Germany.
Jan Bremer of Fraunhofer-ILT shared some of the latest progress in the project as part of his talk entitled “Overview of current research topics in (Hybrid-) Additive Manufacturing using LMD”. In particular, Jan spoke about the innovative approach of Hybrid-AM processes that make the benefits of AM accessible for a wide range of applications and larger part sizes. The talk covered the latest innovations in system technology and software solutions, process development and optimisation efforts related to industrial applications that are being investigated by Fraunhofer-ILT and partners in the projects HyProCell and ProLMD. The latter is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMMF) and KUKA Industries aiming at large format metal 3D printing with a number of manufacturing and institutional partners. Similar to one of the use cases of HyProCell, ProLMD focuses on the laser metal deposition (LMD) method of 3D printing in which powdered metal is fed into a melt pool created by laser beams.
